Commemoration
Dictonary.com defines the term commemoration thus:
1. the act of commemorating.
2. a service, celebration, etc., in memory of some person or event.
3. a memorial.
4. (in many Christian churches) a special service or prayer for commemorating the lesser feast on days on which two feasts of unequal rank are celebrated.
You can often buy commemorative pieces specially created for major events such as Royal Weddings, Historic battles, or can even be specially created to mark the death of a celebrity.
We have a few commemorative pieces around our house and we love them. They were all bought with a specific person or occasion in mind and they make us sit awhile and ponder when we engage with those objects. We wouldn’t be without any of them.
